Useful Things to Know

  • Know the Ohio Law on OVI / DUI / Drunk Driving
Ohio has a minimum mandatory sentencing scheme if you are convicted of OVI/DUI/drunk driving. A first offense can bring up to 180 days of jail time, up to $1000 in fines, and up to 3 years of license suspension. You will need legal advice.
See the complete list of penalties at the following link: http://www.ovilaw.com/ohio_ovi_penalties.asp
  • Know the Ohio Laws on Marijuana Possession
Possession of less than 100 grams (or 3.5 oz) of marijuana will not get you a criminal charge — you will only get a ticket, be charged with a “minor misdemeanor” and have to pay a $100 fine.
Possesssion of more than 100 grams up to 200 grams (or 7 oz) of marijuana, which is not that much, is a 4th degree misdemeanor with up to 30 days in jail and up to $250 in fines.
Possession of more than 200 grams (7 oz) of marijuana will lead to felony charges. You can be charged with felony drug dealing, even if you are not in fact selling to others.
